The monthly UK average for each medicine and dose: what goes into it, what is left out and how to cite it.

The Dose Club Price Index is a monthly figure for each medicine and dose: the average complete monthly price across the GPhC registered providers The Dose Club tracks. It is published on the Price Index page and nowhere else on the site.

The calculation

For each medicine and dose, the index takes the last price The Dose Club checked for every tracked provider in the calendar month and averages them. The lowest and highest of those prices are kept with the average, together with the number of providers included.

Term Meaning
Complete monthly price The medicine for one month plus any compulsory consultation and delivery fees
Last check of the month The most recent price confirmed for that provider before the month ended
Provider count How many providers listed the dose in that month

What is left out

  • Introductory offers, codes and promotions. The index uses standard prices only.
  • Pharmacies that are not registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • Prices that could not be confirmed in the final days of the month. These count as missing for that provider.

When a figure is published

A dose is published for a month only when at least three providers listed it. With fewer than three, one provider's pricing would dominate the average, so the cell stays empty until the dose is more widely stocked.

Citing the index

Cite a figure as "Dose Club Price Index" followed by the month, for example "Dose Club Price Index, September 2026", with the medicine and dose, and link to the Price Index page. The page is updated once each month closes.

What the index is not

The index describes the market for the month. It does not rank one medicine against another and it is not a recommendation to use any medicine or dose. Treatment decisions belong with you and your prescriber.
